Sioux Falls Area Humane Society

The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is an open admission shelter. We are a private non-profit organization and we are not affiliated with any municipality. This means we rely on the generosity of the general public to keep our doors open. Due to the fact that it costs over $300 to re-home one pet, we ask you for a donation when you are surrendering a pet to help care for the pet while it is here. We would like you to be aware of the SFAHS's philosophies and policies with regard to surrendering your pet:

Be advised that you are giving up all legal rights to this animal(s).
We do not guarantee that your pet will be placed into the adoption program or will find a home if it is.
The decision on whether to put the pet into the adoption program may be made upon arrival. This decision is based on breed, temperament, health, age, history and room available.
Once you surrender your pet, no information on that pet will be released.
If you change your mind and want this pet back, if it is available, you will have to go through our adoption screening process and pay the full adoption fee.
All items brought in with the pet (s) are considered a donation and may be used for shelter purposes. We do not guarantee that they will go with the pet nor will they be returned to you once donated. You may ask for a donation receipt for tax purposes on these items.
The undersigned verifies that the information given on this pet is accurate and may be held liable for any false information given or facts not disclosed that may detrimentally affect a potential adopter or the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

Our Re-Homing Services include: health and temperament evaluations, vaccinations, micro-chipping, Frontline treatment,marketing of pet, thoroughly screened adoptions, and the general care of the pet while it is at the Humane Society. While we do understand situations often arise where individuals can often no longer keep their pets, we want you to understand your responsibilities when using our Re-Homing Services and surrendering an animal to us.
