Junior Volunteers

JUNIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Junior Volunteers is a youth program that partners registered Sioux Falls Area Humane Society volunteers with youth ages 12-16. The program allows teens to earn volunteer hours and make a difference in their community.

Junior Volunteers go through an orientation training class with a parent or guardian present. Orientation covers: How to safely approach and interact with pets, overall tour of the facility, basic cleaning and care instructions. After an orientation, they will volunteer with a parent or guardian with them or with a registered volunteer.  Junior Volunteers must volunteer at least 2 hours a month. Volunteers are responsible for the primary handling of animals and supervising their junior volunteers.

Junior Volunteers can socialize with dogs in our designated play areas or walking trails, interact with cats in our private playrooms or help with any cleaning that may be needed such as folding laundry, dusting and tidying up animal kennels.

Junior Volunteer program’s primary goal is to teach responsible pet ownership, animal safety and stress the importance of volunteering.
