We believe that everyone should spend time with their forever pet before adoption. However, we do not "try and buy".

It is hard on the animals to leave assuming

they have their forever home, and be brought back.

We do not do HOLDS on animals.

All animals in your home must be altered before you can adopt another animal from our shelter.

Please be sure you come in and plan to

spend at least 20 minutes with the pet of your choice.

Adoption paperwork takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

REMEMBER...... We do NOT adopt our pets out to people who have unaltered pets at home. Our mission is to find loving homes, however, not spaying and neutering causes more unwanted pets that end up in shelters. If you want to add a pet to your home, please make sure your members of your pet family are altered. Thank you.

ABOUT YOUR LOCAL SIOUX FALLS AREA HUMANE SOCIETY

We are an "Open Admission" shelter, meaning we take all animals, even those from other shelters, and keep them until they find their forever homes. We do not euthanize for space.
We are NOT affiliated with the any other Humane Societies, or any other entity. We rely totally on public funding, and local donations. We are not a "chapter" of the national HSUS, or any other national organization.
We are your LOCAL Humane Society. If you give to national groups, your donations do not reach the pets that stay with us. If you want to support your local Humane Society, please send your donations to our local address. Thank you.
We are responsible to care for animals picked up by Animal Control in the City of Sioux Falls under contract. These animals are considered city property for 3-5 days, paid for by the city's contract. After this time, they are turned over and become property of the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society with the hope we will find them their forever home. At the end of that 3-5 days, the city no longer pays for any expenses for these pets, and that the reason we ask the community to help.
