Hi, my name is Okoboji. I came back to the shelter as a stray so not much is known about my previous home. I get a little nervous of new people. If you go slow and allow me time to adjust I become very playful. I love toys and am great at fetch if you ask me to drop my tennis ball I will. I still have a lot of puppy energy and will need someone who is able and willing to exercise me and help me expel that energy. I know how to sit, give paw, and down, and will very willingly work for treats. I still need some work on my leash manners as I tend to pull very hard and will need a harness. I can learn very quickly if my owners take the time and make training a fun game rather than a chore. The more gentle the training the better I will respond to it. I'm not a fan of strangers and can become very anxious and protective when they come to my home. It is important that my new family very carefully monitor and manage me when other people come to the home. It does not take too many people to make me feel overwhelmed. I should do great with supervised children ages 13 years and older. Children need to understand not to rush toward me and to give me space when needed. When I am playful I can be a bit rough and will get quite mouthy, so please teach me that hands and arms are not toys and offer me a real toy instead like a rope toy or tennis ball. It is not known how I feel about cats but I do seem too interested in them when I have walked past them. I have been around dogs before. I got along with one dog in the home well. I did not get along with the second dog in the home, but it was mostly because of the other dog. I can be selective of my canine companions. If you have a canine friend at home, please bring them to the shelter to meet me to be sure we are compatible. Please be aware that we may not get along. When leaving and coming home please make sure to watch when using the door as I tend to run out doors because I’m excited to go outside. I am neutered, microchipped, frontlined, and started on my vaccinations. I have received my rabies vaccination. Will you be my forever home and teach me lots of new thing?
