What is a matching gift?A matching gift is when a person donates to a non-profit organization and a donor or business donates an equal or great amount to the same non-profit. A matching gift is a great way for a donor to double or even triple their contribution to help the animals at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.
How do I apply for a matching gift?Most companies have a two-part form for the employee and the SFAHS to complete. Generally, the employee will provide the employee information (e.g. employee ID number, location, etc.) and donation information (i.e. amount). SFAHS will then confirm receiving the gift and fill out organization details.
If you are interested in submitting a request for a matching gift, talk with your employer, typically the human resources department or payroll department. See if they have an existing matching donation program or would consider one to match your commitment to the animals in your community. Most often a matching gift is not approved because the donation amount isn't within the program's guidelines, or your employer may have excluded animal welfare organizations. Please contact your employer and ask that they consider adding the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society to their list of eligible matching gift non-profits.
How long will it take to process a matching gift?This will vary for each company. If your employer approves the matching gift, the company will send a check for the matching gift according to their company guidelines.
What is the deadline for having a recent gift matched?Matching gift guidelines are established by each company. Deadlines for submitting a matching gift claim can vary from 30 days from the gift date to more than one year from the gift date. Please talk with your employer about their program requirements.
I'm retired. Will my former employer match my gifts?Many companies extend their matching gifts program to match their retiree's gifts. To find out if your gifts qualify, please reach out to your former employer.
