Wish List FAQ
Can I donate cans of wet food?
We prefer that most our donations be Purina Dry Food, as wet food is not often used in our shelter.
I have an open bag of dog or cat food. Will you still take it?
Yes. Please keep the food in its original bag and attempt to tape shut or reseal. If it is not resealed, we will reseal once it is donated.
What do you not accept?
SFAHS does not accept the following donations.
  • Bed Pillows
  • Couch Pillows
  • Decorative Pillows
  • Bed Sheets
  • Pillow Cases
  • Comforters
Please donate items like these to The Bishop Dudley House, St. Francis, Children's Inn or other community outreach or refuge programs.

We also do not accept
  • Old meat, frozen or unfrozen
  • Shredded Paper
Where do I bring my donations?
Donations can be brought inside the Adoption Center. After you enter the front doors, you will see a donation bin to the West of the entrance. If you need assistance, a staff member can help. We then ask you to fill out a short incoming donation slip so that we can keep track of the donations we receive.

All donations are eligible for a tax receipt, so please take one if needed!
Do you take shredded newspaper?
No. Please only donate sheets of newspaper, with any sales flyers removed.
Can I bring up old or frozen meat?
No. We do not accept any old or frozen meat.
I want to make some DIY toys or treats. What is acceptable?
If you make any homemade treats, a list of all ingredients must be included.
Homemade toys should be durable, hold up in the wash, and not include anything hazardous to pets.
I’ve seen on the internet shelters that put chairs in the kennels. Can I donate a chair?
No, please do not donate old recliners or chairs. Chairs would take up a majority of a dogs kennel, reducing the amount of space they have to move around. They would also be quite difficult to sanitize and clean each and every day. Please do not leave any at the shelter, as then we have to pay a fee to remove.
