What Information We Collect and How We Use That Information:
Our registration forms and donation forms require users to provide us with identifiable information (information from which your identity can be determined). This information may include but is not limited to your name, e-mail address, physical address, interests, and similar information. We do not request or store sensitive information (also known as special categories), such as credit card, social security numbers, race, country of origin and similar information. The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society does not sell or trade personal information (including email addresses) we collect.
We maintain your personal information only until the later of (1) the time needed to provide the information, product or service for which you provided it and (2) to comply with applicable law (such as tax and donation reporting).
We are located in South Dakota in the United States of America. All data we collect is provided to us within the U.S. and remains within the U.S. for the duration of our maintaining the information.
Internet Protocol (IP) Address:
We collect an IP address from all visitors to our website. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our Site, analyze trends, track users’ movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the site, and deliver customized personalized content. IP addresses are sometimes considered personally identifiable information and accordingly, we keep them private and secure as the rest of the personal information we maintain.

Each of our communications (other than those that act as a receipt for registering for an event or making a donation) contains an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.

Why is an email address required to make an online donation?
An email address is required to make an online donation because that is how we provide you with a receipt (including tax information). You will receive news and marking material emails only if you have selected to check the box for those communications, otherwise known as “opt-in”. Online donations and other financial transactions are completed through GreaterGiving powered pages on our website are PCI-DSS compliant. PCI-DSS is the payment card industry security requirement for entities that store, process or transmit cardholder data and has been endorsed by all the major card brands. PCI-DSS compliance gives consumers additional confidence by knowing that organizations accepting electronic payments or donations are doing so in a verified, secure, and consistent fashion. GreaterGiving, our software provider for online fundraising received Level 1 PCI compliance, the highest level validation. This means that the processes, procedures, network configuration and overall environment used to process your financial support of the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society met the stringent guidelines of a third-party audit and are in compliance with the standards set by the industry.
